ABOUT CHRISTY MAY DAVIS

My name is Christy May Davis and I am running to be the City Council Representative for Ward 5. If you are unfamiliar with the boundary lines they are: Glenwood/ Harwood to the South, Jackson Street to the East, Ganson to the North and West Avenue to the West.

I was elected in November 2024 and have immediately jumped into  action. With your help I would like to continue what we started.

When re-elected, my goal is to foster a community of Compassion, Communication and Connection. It is my viewpoint that these are the three key components to creating a better Ward 5. It has been sometime since we have had strong, dedicated representation on city council.

My Values & Where We Started

Compassion: Neighbors need to start caring for and getting to know each other again.

Communication: We need transparent communication from City Council and increased communication about resources within the city.

Connection: We need to be using businesses and non profits that are close to home--supporting our neighbors.

Community: We need to come together as a community.

Where We Are Now

Compassion: Practically, this has looked like listening to the needs of real residents, and working

personally and with others in the community (via non profits or individuals) to fill those needs. For example, finding a bed or clothes or housing.

Communication: I have regularly hosted Ward 5 Meetings and posted on social media regarding      our local happenings. For example, I have been a source for reporter, Darius Udrys with FOX 47

 regarding the T.A. Wilson Facility.

Connection & Community: Thus far, these two have truly gone hand in hand! I have started compiling a list of Ward 5 businesses and non-profits. I regularly refer people to them within the community. People have also come together and grown closer through the acts of compassion above. People often reach out to me, asking how they can help.

Where We are Going - Goals

Adopt a Block Project: A project in which we would have teams regularly cleaning up our neighborhoods, lending a helping hand, an d bringing community.

A Kid's Guide to Ward 5: A small handbook that would give kids ideas of what they can do within their Ward,

foster positive connections with local institutions (police, fire, etc.), and look toward their futures with expectation.

Eve on the Ave: We're bringing back the famous Jackson New Year's Party and making it better than ever!

If you're interested in helping with any of these projects, please let me know!

A Little Bit More about my Background

My daughter and I have lived on Fourth- between Franklin and Biddle, since 2006. I work from home for the hospital, attend Jackson Free Methodist Church in Vandercook and have since 1986 and The Summit in Summit, just this year. I love music, especially singing, playing percussion and piano and my hobbies include photography and painting and leading my daughters Girl Scout Troop! After getting divorced in 2016 and with the help of my family, I started over as a very nervous, city living, single mom, in a neighborhood that has good and bad years. As I got back on my feet, I soon after, I realized I was NOT the only nervous person and I decided I had sat on the sidelines long enough. I began by doing a Ward 5 clean up in 2023; with the amazing help of Laura Schlecte and was able to work all the city pieces into place for me! I started attending City Council meetings in early 2023, and was elected to City Council in 2024. Since then, I have been hard at work, learning the ropes and making good on my promises.

SO, HERE WE ARE! I am excited about the possibility of having a greater impact on OUR COMMUNITY. Now I not only have political experience, but I still have a heart for OUR COMMUNITY. I have met with MANY department heads at City Hall, including attending meetings for various boards and commissions. I have met with Sheriff Schuette, Fire Deputy Gonzales and Police/Fire Chief Hitt. Additionally, I have done a full 12 hour shift ride along with the police department on the Saturday night of a holiday weekend. I have connected with several non-profits including JARC(Jackson Area Recovery Community) getting NARCAN training and carrying NARCAN. I attend as many events as possible downtown and around the city, usually with my daughter in tow and we have a great time! I shop downtown, eat downtown, work and live just outside of downtown.

My promise to you: HELP YOU, LISTEN TO YOU, WORK FOR YOU and SUPPORT YOU TO THRIVE IN ANYWAY I CAN.

Thank You,

Christy May Davis
